Meet The Team

Wendy Scott-Kay

Wendy started learning to dance at a local dance school in Bolton. At sixteen she gained a place at Hammond Dance College in Chester, where she was taught be Sara Neil, who was the first director of New Zealand Royal Ballet.

At Hammond she gained her ISTD qualifications. Wendy taught at her own school amongst other schools in the northwest before embarking on her BA with the Open University.

Wendy has always been fascinated by the language and history of dance, particularly Ballet; attending courses at the Royal Academy of Dance to study early court dances. She is also intrigued by how dance can make us feel or reveal more about ourselves. This interest, along with 20 years as a Yoga practitioner and 15 years of meditation practice; lead Wendy to choose to study for an MA in Dance and Somatic Wellbeing, a course she has just completed.

This course studied links between dance and our unconscious feelings, thoughts and sensations. Wendy has been teaching at Rothwell Arts for 5 years and will continue to teach Ballet, Tap and Modern and starting the training of the teachers of tomorrow, through the teacher train programme.

Wendy will also be teaching yoga, meditation and somatic movement

Aimee Townsend

Student Council Appointed Chair

Hi my name is Aimee and I am 17 years old in October. I have danced at Rothwell Arts for 3 years and have enjoyed every minute.
For some dancing becomes a career, for me dancing is a hobby where I can both exercise and make friends.
I am looking forward to starting college in September to study A-levels in Dance, Psychology and Sociology and I am hoping to become a counsellor.
In my past I have suffered with severe anxiety and have myself been referred for counselling on two occasions These sessions helped me greatly along with the help and support of my friends.
As a result, I want to offer my help and advice to anybody in the school who needs a friend to listen. Whether it be face to face or just a message, I am here to help.

Dancing has been a great way to deal with my anxieties as it gives me a release and another focus. It is healthy for not only our bodies but for our minds and our mental health.
I am proud to have been asked to be part of the team.
