JORDAN JACKSON

BIRD COLLEGE GRADUATE
2019 - 2022

My journey at Rothwell Arts began in 2016 where a committed and driven dance school quickly became a family. Miss Vicky Rothwell and Miss Wendy Scott-Kay are so strongly dedicated and such inspiring teachers, to which I would not be able to train at Bird College without their work. This applies to all the faculty at Rothwell Arts.

Rothwell Arts provides exceptional training and education through the use of accredited examinations from BTDA, LAMDA and more. Through hard work and preparation, I became ready to take my first examination in BTDA Grade 5 Modern Jazz, then follow with Grade 3 Tap and Grade 4 Ballet. I received high distinctions in all of these and a Platinum Award for ballet.

During my time, I competed with my team in regular dance festivals which involved many hours of training during our Elite sessions, as well as dedicating time for extra rehearsals. I also had the opportunity to choreograph a piece for the school for which was awarded 2nd place at one of these festivals. As Head Boy of the school, I was able to assist Miss Vicky and Miss Wendy with teaching our younger students syllabus work and choreography, helping to instil the same passion and love for performing that we have to them.

The ambition and work ethic from this schools’ faculty and students is undeniable. They do this because, as teachers, they want us to grow and achieve, to train our talents and know that no dream is ‘too big’. In preparation for my auditions, Miss Vicky aided me with repertoire selections, rehearsal process and was a very key figure leading to me obtaining two offers from prestigious performing arts schools – Italia Conti and Bird College. The work of Rothwell Arts applies to all of its students, naturally leading to many more successful alumni than myself alone. This school has helped shape me into who I am today and, although I may now be a Birdie, I will always be a humble and grateful member of Rothwell Arts. #NeverMissAChanceToDance #RothwellArts

ITALIA CONTI GRADUATE
2019 - 2022

When asked to provide a case study for Rothwell Arts, I was delighted as I am eternally grateful to the school for enabling me to progress onto the next stage of my journey on my Musical Theatre Degree course at The Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts.

For the past 5 years, I am proud to have trained at such an outstanding school with a team who truly care about their students on both a personal and a professional level. Without the unwavering support of Miss Vicky, Miss Wendy and the rest of the staff, I wouldn’t have been able to maintain consistently high results in my GCSE’s, A-Levels, BTDA dance exams and professional college auditions, whilst enjoying every minute of training in an environment which became like a second home to me.

Every member of staff is bursting with knowledge and passion for their art form, which allows them to cater to the needs of and inspire each and every student- no matter the ability. When I transferred to the school in 2014, the need for my technique to be rectified was immediately apparent and Miss Vicky and Miss Wendy took the time to ensure that I had a solid foundation, which would allow me to progress rapidly. Never in a million years did I think I would be able to achieve such high grades in my BTDA dance exams, however when I began to gain marks such as 98%, I knew I was in the right place and the tireless work of the teachers had pushed me to be the best I possibly could. I can honestly say that the staff know no boundaries and, through my journey from being a novice to a vocational level student, I felt consistently challenged and finally equipped with all the tools required of a professional drama school student.

Whether a student wants to take up Performing Arts as a hobby, or whether they strive to pursue a career in the industry, Rothwell Arts will provide the opportunities for this to happen. As my dream is to work professionally, the staff at Rothwell Arts provided me with many life-changing opportunities. For instance, I was lucky enough to gain a place at The Hammond School as an associate where I studied for two years and I was advised and supported as I signed with Scream Management agency in 2018, allowing me to experience what it is like to work professionally. I was given the opportunity to compete on many occasions, in groups, duets and solos, winning numerous awards and bursaries, which helped with my training and motivated me to continue developing as a performer. I am thankful to have been able to choreograph group numbers for competitions and shows, allowing my creative skills to flourish.

Rothwell Arts feels more like a family than a school to me and I know that the friends I have made will be with me for life. As Head Girl, I have formed relationships with pupils of all age groups and am privileged to be a role model to others, proving that students at this school have the potential to go on to achieve whatever they wish if they put their mind to it. I would like to thank the school once again for their exceptional support and for allowing me to get to where I am today. I will always value the memories I have made during my time at Rothwell Arts and can’t wait to come back and teach the talented pupils!

STELLA MANN GRADUATE
2023

My journey at Rothwell Arts began when I was 7 , even though I loved to dance I was quite a shy and timid young girl, throughout the 14 years I have been at this dance school Miss Vicky has brought out the best in me and what once was my hobby grew into my passion. I am extremely grateful for all the highly skilled training, experiences and opportunities that Rothwell Arts has given me. Being part of the Elite team was a turning point for me as we put many hours into training to perfect the dances, improving my confidence, fitness, skills and the importance of working as a team. Miss Vicky is able to see the talents in people and it was only through her enthusiasm and drive that I began to sing in school shows and at festivals.

Miss Vicky and Miss Wendy are such inspiring and skilled teachers who have guided me through the many BTDA exams in modern, ballet and tap achieving merit and distinctions. I have also gained BTDA Scholarships for two years on the run which supported me through my Intermediate tap and ballet exams. The teachers are truly dedicated to putting time and effort into their students so that you are prepared to do your best.

As well as a student at Rothwell Arts I have also had the opportunity to teach and assist alongside Miss Vicky and Miss Wendy with teaching our younger students syllabus work and choreography, helping them to understand the passion and love we have for performing.

I have also been inspired by other students auditioning and gaining places at prestigious dance colleges and with the support and knowledge of Miss Vicky I was able to apply and successfully audition at range of Performing Arts colleges.

Rothwell Arts has always been way more than just a dance school to me it is my dance family, were everyone is made to feel welcome. I have made the most important friendships and bonds that will last a lifetime.

I am excited to begin the next part of my journey at Stella Mann Performing Arts College and I am truly grateful to Rothwell Arts for helping me to progress to this next level and for shaping the person that I have become.
